Bank Holiday Mondays are meant for relaxation and enjoyment, and this year's August 28th was no exception, especially for the folks who made their way to the Pershore Plum Festival. It was a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a healthy dose of friendly competition, all thanks to the Rotary for allowing and enabling TOP Networking stand to happen. I am obviously bias, but I believe it truly stole the show.

This stand was the work of many in the clubs and manned by so many TOP club volunteers!

As the sun shone down on the festival grounds, hundreds of attendees were drawn to the custom-built dart stands that were covered in the harlequin colours (that represent TOP Networking) designed by Simon Hodgetts of SB Print which covered the TOP Networking stand from top to bottom. These stands, meticulously crafted by the skilled hands of Nathan Berry from Nathan Bespoke Ltd, were more than just your average game stations. They were works of art, embodying quality and craftsmanship that promised years of enjoyment to come. Dart enthusiasts and beginners alike gathered to test their aim and accuracy, turning the stand into a vibrant hub of excitement.

It is worth noting that the concept and game plan of these stands were the brainchild of David Wickins of the Rotary Pershore.

But the spirit of the Plum Festival goes beyond just games. It's about community, collaboration, and coming together for a good cause. And that's where the heart-warming story of Martin Strivens of Martin Strivens Photography comes in. When the call for help went out, Martin answered with generosity, donating the much-needed dart boards that completed the gaming experience. It's acts like these that truly make an event memorable and reinforce the sense of unity within a community.

The Pershore Plum Festival itself has a rich history, dating back 25 years to its resurrection by local visionaries David Shaw and Marion Freeman. What began as an endeavour to raise the profile of Pershore and its association with plums has evolved into a beloved annual tradition. From horticultural insights to historic displays, the Plum Festival celebrates more than just fruit – it honours the heritage and culture of the area.

TOP Networking, a thriving club with deep roots in Pershore, seized the opportunity to participate and contribute to this wonderful event. With 30 business owners as members and the Rotary as a partner, the club's presence was truly felt. Representing both TOP Networking and the Rotary, members came out in full force to engage with the festivalgoers and spread the spirit of connection that lies at the core of both organizations.

I would like to make special mention of the people who came to support the stand throughout the day including:

· Jason Jones - Jones & Associates (Helped plan and setup)

· Emma Hamel – Emmies Web Designs (Helped midday pains)

· Grant Hamel – Grant Hamel Coaching (Darts donation and hustler)

· James Weaver- Slimbridge Health Ltd (much hard work and scouting other stands)

· Jacob Styler – Affinity and Worcester University Lecturer (TOP Member and support)

· Charlotte Burn - Charlotte Burn Photography (TOP Member and support)

· Paul Bennett - Evesham Transport Limited (Helps the painful end and taking it all down)

· Lisa Organ - Juvo Business Support (Newest Member and there when needed)

· Jackie Coulson-Savage - JCS Procurement & Supply Chain Ltd and Training (Really star work throughout!)

· Nick Morris - Avon Green Financial (TOP support from TOP Worcester member)

As the day drew to a close, the sounds of laughter, cheers, and the clinking of darts filled the air. The Plum Festival of 2023 had left its mark – not only through the fun and games but also through the stories of collaboration and community spirit that define the essence of Pershore. It was a bank holiday to remember, a celebration of plums, unity, and the joy of coming together to make a difference. Here's to the Plum Festival, and to the many more years of laughter and camaraderie it promises to bring!

Finally it is also worth noting that the i-Sing group sang on the morning too at the band stand and my wife is part of this impressive club. MAN! They can turn out large numbers. I have become a groupie of this choir now. They did not let down and about 50 singers performed A Night to Remember, The Chain, Adele - Easy on Me and an eighties mash up.

For those interested in joining the NEWLY formed wing which is the Pershore Choir they meet on Thursday mornings 10:15am to 11:45am at St Andrews Centre in Pershore to find out more contact i-singchoirs.co.uk .

They will be starting on the 14th Setpember!
